You are accruing or have accrued a pension with StiPP. That retirement capital is invested. When you retire, the investments are sold so that you can use them to purchase a pension income. Your pension income can be either stable or variable. If you decide in favour of a stable pension, StiPP will administer your pension income payments. If you opt for a variable pension, you can personally choose the pension insurer to which you entrust your accrued retirement capital. Approximately six months before your retirement date you will receive a letter from StiPP explaining the procedure leading up to the start of your pension income payments. This letter also states the amount of the retirement capital that you have accrued on that date.
You can use this information to request quotes from us for a variable pension. We advise you to act in good time to ensure that your pension payments start on the desired commencement date.
COMPARE OPTIONSWhen a retirement capital becomes available, it pays to look carefully for a suitable pension insurer. It is important to determine your personal financial situation and (income) needs first and then find a suitable provider. You must also keep the legal requirements in mind. For example, a pension must be paid out for life and cannot be made available in one lump sum.
The differences in the amount of pension income can be significant. This is because insurers apply different interest rates and charges. The amount of your pension income is determined by three factors:
- The interest rate;
- The insurance element (the life expectancy, this determines how long an insurer expects to pay your lifelong pension income);
- The costs.
